Norwood Systems' Chief Executive Officer Paul Ostergaard received the Industrial and Infrastructure Solutions Award at the 2025
Asia-Pacific ICT Alliance Awards.
This is Norwood’s third time on the APICTA stage and first win, taking home the top award for the company’s AI-enabled Open Span Call Protect™ solution – now an internationally award-winning technology innovation, proudly made in WA.
Norwood Systems secured entry into the global APICTA Awards after winning the Research & Innovation (Industry) Award at the 34th INCITE Awards in July, and a Merit at the national iAwards held August in Adelaide, South Australia. The organisation participated in APICTA in 2014 and 2017.
Norwood Systems CEO Paul Ostergaard said the team is thrilled to bring home their first APICTA trophy after years of refinement and dedication.
“We’re over the moon. Winning the Industrial and Infrastructure Solutions Award on our third APICTA attempt is incredibly rewarding. It reflects our team’s long-term focus on building secure, scalable and globally relevant AI systems. We’re proud to represent Western Australia and Australia on this stage.”
Norwood Systems, along with Professor Ahmed Abu-Siada of Curtin University and Michella Hill of Edith Cowan University, represented WA and Australia at the international awards held in Kaohsiung between 4 and 8 December.
Norwood Systems Open Span Call Protect™ is an AI-powered conversational intelligence platform; a secure and sovereign technology that is transforming how industrial, utilities and infrastructure organisations analyse and improve human-to-human communication at scale.
"This is a major win for homegrown technology innovation, showing how Western Australian talent is leading the charge with world-class solutions that really make a difference," WAITTA Board Director and Co-Chair of the 34th INCITE Awards program, Jess Etheridge said.
Cameron Zivkovic, also Co-Chair of the 34th INCITE Awards program and WAITTA Board Director, added, "Not only is Western Australia's technology innovation ecosystem producing globally award-winning talent, but our people are at the front of the pack when it comes to AI. Congratulations Norwood Systems on this truly deserved global recognition."

This year's awards drew more than 260 nominations from 13 different members of the Asia-Pacific ICT Alliance.
It was a strong showing for Team Australia, with a record number of nominations submitted; it was also a record year for Western Australia with three nominees participating.
Alongside Norwood System's win, Victoria's MEQ and Tasmania's Southern Ocean Subsea also win gold, and New South Wales' What's On! took home a merit in a highly competitive program.

As well as Norwood Systems being a nominee, Western Australia's Michella Hill of Edith Cowan University and Professor Ahmed Abu-Siada of Curtin University also made the trek to Kaohsiung for this year's APAC awards.
Michella, a PhD candidate, submitted NEONATE-in-VR in the Research & Development and Inclusion & Community, Health & Wellbeing Award categories. Ahmed's predictive rural powerline solution VION was a nominee in both the Research & Development and Industrial, Sustainability & Environment awards.
All three WA teams secured entry to the international APICTA Awards after taking wins at the INCITE Awards, which is the State's only entry pathway to the national iAwards.
The Asia-Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) is a regional, government-endorsed body made up of 16 economies across the Asia–Pacific.
Each year, APICTA hosts the APICTA Awards, a major international showcase recognising the best and most impactful technology solutions from the region.
Finalists are selected through national programs - in WA’s case, through the INCITE Awards and then the national iAwards — before competing on the global stage.
APICTA spotlights world-leading innovation from member economies, builds collaboration and trade opportunities across the region. provides international benchmarking for technology excellence, and supports talent development and cross-economy knowledge-sharing
A win or finalist placement at APICTA puts technology innovators on a pathway to engagement with international investors, industry leaders, and decision-makers across public and private sectors.
