The annual INCITE Awards represent far more than a title. It signifies a chance for groups and individuals in STEM to present their ideas and innovations in the spotlight, consequently opening doors to national, then international recognition.
At the 34th INCITE Awards, Containers for Change (WARRRL) received a Merit for their work with their innovative Collect App.
President of WAITTA, Con Polkinghorne described the app as “a fantastic example of how technology can make sustainability more accessible to everyone.”

Despite Containers for Change not taking home the top award at INCITE, their merit provided them with an invaluable opportunity to advance to the national iAwards.
At the iAwards, they won in the most popular category, Sustainability and Environment, which saw them going up against 14 other nominees.
This win took them all the way to Brunei, where they participated in the Asia-Pacific ICT Alliance (AIPICTA). The event, held in December 2024, brings together the brightest minds and innovations across the Asia-Pacific region, including Containers for Change (WARRRL) which participated in the Education, Sustainability, and Environment category.
WARRRL’s Head of IT and Innovation, Kristen Britz, travelled to Brunei for the 2024 APICTA Awards as part of Team Australia.
WARRRL’s Head of IT and Innovation, Kristen Britz said that the three award ceremonies exposed them to a different range of innovation and ideas from a state level all the way to an international level.
It better allowed the organisation to measure its work against others in similar areas of focus as well as gain recognition for their efforts and innovations amongst their peers.
Kristen described it as an incredibly rewarding experience as WAARRL got their work acknowledged, which reaffirmed that their work is beneficial to the environment.
Industry wide events such as this, Kristen said, allows new innovations and technology to be explored more across the world, allowing for the development of better and more advanced solutions.

As the only path for Western Australia to take on the Australian iAwards, the INCITE Awards provide an opportunity to present innovations and solutions being developed in our own backyard across a variety of sectors. It is also a valuable networking experience that gives likeminded people a chance to meet and share ideas.
The INCITE Awards are more than just an annual event. It’s a springboard for WA’s brightest innovators to achieve national and global recognition.
